Commencing this coming Saturday, November 4th. 2017, our community will be down for maintenance.
The exact time when this is going to take place is not set in stone, since we will be 3 people gathering, from 3 different time zones.
The maintenance itself should not take more than an hour at most, but we do aim for less.
Truth be told, we haven’t had a proper maintenance, since we lost DeXTeR, so it is about time.
We have run daily backups of course, but the server configuration is in a chaotic state.
DeXTeR had many projects going on, and the remnants still linger.
To avoid any complications, we will take the forum offline while we work on the server, to avoid any unexpected behavior. Working the background processes and services, could ruin the functionality of the forum.
We have already prepared things as much as we could and made a battle plan. We have silently changed the site over to CloudFlare as our DNS (name server) provider. This is for added protection in the future, but also easier management and cleanup of the server.
Currently we have a custom DNS server setup, with an extra domain name just for that purpose, and also 2 additional IP adresses assigned to the server, that we essentially don’t need.
So the purpose is a proper cleaning and optimization of the entire server. This includes cutting costs of unnecessary extras.
This is not a sign of monetary trouble, but we would rather save donations for other things, rather than wasting the money on stuff we do not need.
